Strabrecht College

Zero-energy construction in the forest

Students of the Strabrecht College are taught on a very special location. The school is located near fields of heath and is surrounded by trees. Of course these surroundings needed to be featured. You can see the painterly forest through large windows that run from floor to ceiling in some places.

Building energy neutral was centre in constructing the school, just as green, light and climate. Patios make sure that large amounts of natural light enter the building. The façade is covered with sustainable wood and indoors walls are finished with reused wood for the acoustics. The auditorium and wooden stairs are the centre point of the building, practical training classrooms can be found around it.

To find the right lighting for this high open space, the amount of incoming daylight, the shapes of the building and the applied materials have been taken into account. Rectangular FINEA pendant fixtures with a round finishing strengthen the architectural design and ensure sufficient lighting. Pleasant learning and working is supported by high quality LED lighting that illuminate work spots indirectly.
